Katie White OBE, the Labour Member of Parliament for Leeds North West, has been announced as the keynote speaker for Northern Powergrid’s flagship ‘Net Zero for the North’ conference later this week.
This comes as she continues to champion green jobs for Leeds, campaign for lower energy bills and create greener, more vibrant community spaces.
As the company responsible for the electricity network that powers the lives of more than 8 million customers across the North East, Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire, Northern Powergrid is at the forefront of decarbonisation.
This has led to the delivery of its highly anticipated ‘Net Zero for The North’ conference, with a range key industry organisations and net zero focussed stakeholders in attendance.
Taking place on Thursday 26 September at Cloth Hall Court in Leeds City Centre, this important event aims to put the northern regions on the map for driving forward the net zero agenda.
Alongside Katie White, Phil Jones, President and CEO of Northern Powergrid, will take to the stage to explain how the network operator is empowering the customers and communities it serves to achieve net zero. With a selection of keynote presentations that have been described as “electrifying”, the conference will feature a panel discussion, interactive workshops and networking opportunities intended to foster collaboration and inspire action.
On the conference, Paul Glendinning, Director of Energy Systems at Northern Powergrid said:
"We’re delighted to be entering our third Net Zero for the North conference with such as esteemed line up of speakers, all of whom have a genuine passion for decarbonisation. “Not only do we look forward to welcoming our brilliant keynote speakers, but we will also be giving delegates the opportunity to network with household names in the energy sector, who are working alongside Northern Powergrid to make real, positive change in the lives of our customers and communities.”
On her presence at the event, Katie White MP added: “The Labour’s Government’s net zero plans are great news for the North. As a born-and-bred Yorkshire woman representing Leeds North West in Parliament, I’m so excited about the opportunities that the green transition could bring to our cities, towns, and villages. “We have a chance to not only create new jobs, but cut energy bills with cheaper, zero-carbon electricity. I’m looking forward to joining the many businesses and organisations across our region who share both our ambition and determination to make Britain a clean energy superpower.”
The Net Zero for the North conference demonstrates Northern Powergrid's commitment to leading the charge towards a greener, more sustainable future for the North. Exhibitors at the conference include National Grid, Advanced Infrastructure Technology Limited and Business Modelling Applications (BMA).
