Northern Powergrid supporting customers affected by forecasted heavy snow

Posted:
05/01/2025

  • Northern Powergrid is focused on supporting customers whose power has been affected by heavy snow and freezing temperatures across the region

  • So far, 12,306 customers have been affected, with 2,649 customers having their power supply back on, with the North Yorkshire region the worst affected.

  • We were ready for this, and our teams are working to get the power back on as quickly as possible. We are keeping customers updated via our live power cut map, texts and social media.

  • Travel conditions are challenging so may make it difficult for our teams to get immediate access to our network. We will do everything we can to get our customers’ power back on as soon as it safe for us to do so.

  • Our contact centre team is available 24/7 and is ensuring any vulnerable customers are offered extra advice and support.

  • Customer support teams are ready to head into communities to offer welfare support to areas which need it most where it is safe for them to do so.

Heavy snow fall across the North East, Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire is bringing challenging conditions across our regions.

Currently around 12,306 customers have had their power affected. Our teams were ready to respond for our customers and have already restored 2,649.

The challenging conditions will make it difficult for our teams to safely reach some areas which are causes problems to the network. We know how difficult this can be for our customers and we will continue to work to get the power back on as quickly as possible

Our teams are using 4x4s and specialist access vehicles to support our response so they can continue to ensure our network continues to operate safely and securely for our customers.

Steve McDonald, Director of Field Operations at Northern Powergrid, said: “We were anticipating some disruption following the weather warning for snow, and we were prepared to respond for our customers.

“Travel and access remains challenging but we’re doing everything we can to keep the power on for our customers. Our fleet of 4x4s and specialist access vehicle are playing an essential role in getting our teams to sites to carry out the necessary repairs. We thank our customers for their patience whilst the heavy snow and freezing conditions continue to hit our region.

We expect the heavy snow fall to continue throughout today. Our teams will continue to update the customers currently affected on when their power is expected to be back on, answer customer calls, and send additional support vehicles and teams out into communities that we expect to be most affected where it is safe to do so.

Our live power cut map is the quickest way to report your power cut and get updates as it holds the same information that our contact centre teams have about when your power is expected to be restored.

If you need additional support, please get in touch. For customers who are part of our Priority Services Membership, we will make sure you receive extra help, and we'll keep in touch with you to let you know the time your power is likely to be back on. We can contact you regardless of the time of day, or night, by text message if we have a mobile phone number for you, or by calling you if we only have a landline number for you. Alternatively, you can contact our dedicated priority service line 0800 169 2996. If you know someone or would like to sign up to our Priority Services Membership you can do so at northernpowergrid.com/care or by calling 105.

If you spot any damaged power lines or electricity network equipment, stay well clear and call 105 immediately."
